Summer Balloon Fun

For two magical summers, the skies above Delta, Colorado have transformed into a vibrant gallery of color and wonder during the annual 4th of July Hot Air Balloon Festival. This collection documents these dawn-lit celebrations, where dozens of balloons rise above the valleys of Western Colorado, set against the backdrop of the Grand Mesa and West Elk Mountains.

Through this ongoing photographic series, I’ve captured both the grand spectacle and intimate moments of this cherished community event – from the early morning inflation of these gentle giants to their majestic ascent in the crisp morning air. Each image tells a story of skilled pilots, dedicated ground crews, and the mesmerized spectators who gather in the pre-dawn hours to witness this choreographed dance of light and air.

These photographs celebrate not just the balloons themselves, but the spirit of our Delta community coming together to create something extraordinary.
